British Columbia – Gladstone (Texas Creek) – Christina Lake

IMG_2133

Welcome to Texas Creek campground located in Gladstone Provincial park. This park is accessible off of Hwy 3  before you reach the town of Christina Lake. The marker is not very well advertised so keep your eyes open for it. Once you have turned off of Hwy 3 you will have a 5km access road to travel. This access road is paved but narrow and follows a residential track with houses lakes side and mountain on the inside. Once committed, there are no turn arounds on this road until you reach the campground.

Texas Creek is a small campground with only 63 sites. It sits high up on a bluff overlooking Christina Lake, with trails down to the lake from the campground.  The campground is well treed and every campsite offers good privacy and lots of room to park the rig.

At the information kiosk for Texas Creek was a map of all campgrounds located with in the Okanagan region. A helpful map to plan future trips.

As you enter the campground the roads open up to nicely laid out gravel roads. The campground is very navigable by big rigs. Though big rigs may find it difficult to navigate the access road into the campground.

The campsites are all a nice size with more than enough room to setup the RV and outside areas and still have room for the toad and dolly.

Each site offers a firmly fixed picnic table and a fairly decent size pad. On this site the picnic table was far enough away from the driveway to allow us room to setup our outside gear.

A peaceful evening outside with a glass of wine; what a way to end off a travel day. As beautiful as this campground was, we were only here for three days, a brief stop on our way into the Fernie area further up Hwy 3.

Along the outside ring road of the campground I spied this view as we walked about exploring. As you can see there is lush forest that encompasses the bluff's perimeter but every now and then the forest offers up some beautiful views of the lake from the campground.

To get to the lake from the campground you must follow a long and at times steep trail down to the water edge. The trail is lined with trees until almost the very bottom of the trail when it opens up and allows you to see this. A beautiful lake surrounded by foothills.

Here I caught Lorraine surveying the lake from right to left, and admiring the view.

At the bottom of the lake trail you will find little private beaches isolated by scrub bushes and some dead wood that offers privacy while laying on the sand.  The beach offers stunning views of the lake from all directions.

The beach is a wonderful place to spend a day on Christina Lake, as the lake water is very warm and the beach is bathed in sunshine. The locals say it is the warmest lake in BC. The beach itself is not very long so if you plan to spend the day it would be best to get down to the beach early so as to claim a spot.

Beautiful clear deep blue water awaits your arrival if you take the plunge and walk down the beach trail. Make sure you bring your towel, water, and food with you, as the walk back up to the campground can be daunting.

Nuts & Bolts

Christina lake is a beautiful place in which to spend a few days relaxing from the open road and the ups and downs of Hwy 3. The lake is located just before the town of Christina lake where you can find some amenities like fuel, propane, and some food items. The access road to the Texas Creek Campground is narrow and could present problems for big Rigs. In our 26'ft RV we felt tight along the lake side road, but once we got to the campground navigating the roads were much easier.  The campground is very rustic with no services. There are no sani-dumps in the area, but potable water and propane can be gotten from the Esso gas station in town. Cell Service is spotty but a solid signal can be gotten if you are using a cell booster. Over all we would recommend this campground as a weigh point while you travel the open road of Hwy 3. A night here will cost you $27.00 / night, and generator hours are from 8am to 9:30am and 5pm to 7pm.
