Spring Fever, I’m afraid I’m infected! As I was sitting here going through email all the articles I read got me thinking of the RV and the impending spring wakeup. While reading I have the RV podcasts playing in the back ground and all are talking about spring wakeup, and soon to be camping. So no wonder spring is top of my mind. Then the weather is not helping, yesterday it was 15c shorts and tee weather, and today its 5c and I’m breaking out the heavy jacket. The call of the ski hill is still whispering in my ear to go forth and enjoy the last of the snow, but the lure of the RV is pulling at my soul. Yes, I definitely have Spring Fever!
As you know I had to book a site yesterday. What I had hoped would happen, did not. I totally struck out trying to book into Pacific Rim National Park. By the time my browser made its connection to the queue I had a 32min wait. Once I got through the queue and was allowed to book, all the sites were gone. Now all was not lost as I was able to book into a private campground in Tofino for the week of my daughter’s birthday, just as she had hoped for. So now I have to rethink where we are going to stay along the way. BC Parks won’t allow outsiders to book until July 8th so, trying to book into the Provincial parks I may find myself out of luck. I suppose I can try to play the cancellation game, or it’s private campgrounds. Who knows maybe it will be a combination of both. Then there is the specter of travel restrictions to control COVID variants that may cancel this trip altogether. In any case, I have to rethink and research campgrounds and start building plan B, at least for this trip.
My next booking date is on the 17th when I will attempt to get in at St. Mary’s Reservoir. If my last two experiences have been any indication of what to expect, I better be on my toes. To anyone who’s playing the same booking game I feel your pain and wish you the best of luck. Just remember sometimes win, sometimes you lose, but always persevere. One thing is for sure if you do get a site and get out there it is going to be busy on the roads. People are fed up with hanging out in their homes and they want out! You certainly see it in the mountains and on the ski hills. And the early signs of summer driving season are in the air. Read this article by CBC on the Summer Driving Season
Finally, I thought I would direct you to reading this article on Starlink. What is Starlink? It is a new satellite network for connecting to the internet. Why is this important? Well if you need internet from the road or in a remote location then this is important. With Starlink you will be able to connect to the internet with speeds similar to what you can get at home, not entirely the same but close; and at a cost that will not break the bank. Currently it is operating in a Beta test, but they are moving forward with getting it ready for prime time usage. For me traveling around and being a Systems administrator having good internet access at a reasonable price is important. Cell data is expensive and this service will allow month to month connections again at a reasonable price. Read about it here: Starlink Coming soon for RVers
Well everyone, that is it for now, its time for me to go out to the garage and look at my polishers and wash the applicators, boy do I have spring fever! Ha! Ha!
Happy trails,
