Post Covid19? – Our change in plans

Final 1

Post Covid19? and Our change in plans..Well it is official, Today I got an email from BC parks stating that camping season in BC will be open to residents only, and all others will be on the bottom of the list for any camping sites this year. So, it looks like our Plan A camping plans are definitely cancelled. Which is very unfortunate as we were supposed to travel to Vancouver Island and up to Campbell River for my Brothers wedding.  I will now have to call him and give him the bad news, though I am sure he already knows. Travelling between Provinces this year is greatly restricted and heavily frowned upon, which I guess makes sense eh? We all must do what is necessary to protect one another during this Pandemic, no matter how inconvenient it is.

So, I guess it was a good thing that I did book a Plan B here in Alberta when everything opened up (See Yesterdays’ post) as all of my BC bookings are in the process of being cancelled. Sigh..

I am still waiting to hear about what the Feds are gong to do with National park bookings. They have already cancelled the early season bookings and have yet made a decision about future bookings or even when they will reopen the reservation site, or if travel will be restricted to locals only.  My Plan B depends on a booking in Banff at the end of August, with out it my loop won’t be closed. So, patient I must be until the powers at be make a decision to open or not to open the National parks this year.

It is raining quite heavily here in Calgary today so it was a good opportunity to see if I had any leaks in the roof or vents. Much to my delight no unexpected leaks popped up over the winter slumber. So again, it looks like the decision to cover my RV during the winter months makes sense. (See my Post on covers). Protecting the roof from snow and ice by using a cover seems to work, but of course this is a contentious issue and what works for one person is not always best for another.

The rain is supposed to stop for the weekend and the sun will once again fill the skies here in Calgary. That is perfect! As I will then use the great weather to finish off my spring wakeup checklist and move into the pre-trip checklist to get the RV ready for the first trip. I forget how much work there is in getting ready for a trip for the first time in a season. Subsequent trips are so much easier to prep for it’s almost like, throw the clothes in, food, and the dog and off we go..Well..Almost 😊

Life here in Calgary has yet to return to any semblance of normal yet. Calgary has the highest amount of Covid cases in all of Alberta, though Brooks is a close second. So it was decided to reopen The two cities two weeks later than the rest of the Province. May 25th is our hopeful opening date. We will find out on Friday if this is still a go. Unfortunately, I still feel it will be a while before I can get my hair cut again. I now have hair as long as I did when I was young man. Boy how history can repeat itself?

With week 10 of isolation rapidly approaching its end I find myself feeling very lucky to not only have survived and not gotten the virus as of yet, but to be able to contemplate a camping season. Certainly, I was not that confident 10 weeks ago. That only goes to show how quickly our world changes now, and so I am looking forward to slowing down and getting off the merry-go-around for a few weeks, throughout this summer and just chill’en.

Happy Trails
