As you all may know from a previous post our old toad a 2007 Saturn Ion was written off after an accident that Lorraine had with it (luckily not her fault & no injuries). It was to say the least a disappointment to both of us as this car was a perfect toad to travel with and a much beloved car to Lorraine. Since then we have purchased a new car for Lorraine and we will be using it this year as our toad on all of our travels. What did we get? Well we got a 2013 Ford Focus

Why the Focus? Well we were looking for something a bit more current and we wanted a nice fuel efficient car to use as a second vehicle for Lorraine. It had to be front wheel drive in order for us to use it with our car dolly, which allows us to tow it behind the RV, and weight was a concern too. Now the focus comes in at just over 4000lbs, it is about a 1000lbs heavier than the Ion was, but within our specs for weight. The focus also has great cargo capacity with a hatchback and five person capacity for when we have guests. Over all this seemed like a good fit for us, the RV, and Lorraine. We will see how the gas millage on the RV is when towing this car behind, especially when in the mountains. Hopefully it will not affect the MPG too much, but I guess we will see once we start the season.

News Flash - MPG
We have now had a trip in to the mountains with the new toad behind the RV. We went from Calgary to Yoho National Park and stayed at Kicking horse campground. This was a wonderful weekend trip for both Lorraine and I where we got to visit Takakkwa Falls and the Hamlet of Field where we picked up our marriage license, but that is another story.
In any case MPG. Yes so with the toad behind us the RV averaged about 5.5 MPG through the mountains and foothills of southern Alberta. This was within my expectations. The next test on this will be the drive to the West coast and around BC, to see what kind of MPG we get on that trip. That will be the true test.
Cheers,
