The Great Spring Wake-up

Final 1

Now that March is here in all its glory, it won’t be long before the better weather will allow all of us RV addicts to start working on our rigs. Of course the first thing we will do once the cover is off is to do the spring wakeup. With spring just around the corner I thought it would be a great time to look at what is done during the great spring wake-up.

As the weather warms up I begin to wake up our rig in stages. Starting at the end of March I take the cover off of the RV, and now the fun can begin. There is a lot to do and think of when waking up your rig from a long winter sleep, so I have developed checklists over the years to help me remember what is needed to be done.

Here are my top 16 things that have to be done for a great spring wake-up

  • Remove RV Cover
  • Install and Service Batteries
  • Check Fluids on Chassis
  • Oil Change on Chassis & Generator
  • Service Generator / Test
  • Flush Water system
  • Sanitize Water system
  • Test water system – Pressurize
  • Check and Test Electrical system
  • Test and Change batteries on all smoke and gas Detectors
  • Check and Test Propane System
  • Check, test, and service Air conditioner (Roof Top)
  • Check Tires for wear and pressure
  • Clean Glass
  • Reteach Chassis engine computer (only required if chassis battery removed for winter)
  • Road Test

So that’s it 16 things to remember to get your RV up and running in tip top shape after the long winter slumber. Now there are many other things to look at like seams, but this list will get you going and off to a good spring start.

So now what? You have woken the beast and we still have a couple of months till camping season. Now is the time to start thinking of maintenance and repair items that you may have identified at the end of last year’s camping season.  If you start now then you can hopefully get ahead of the curve in terms of wait times with the RV tech or mechanic, and be ready for May long weekend. Remember the early bird gets the worm.

Happy Trails
