Jasper is using controlled burns in the dead of winter to reduce the amount of dead wood in the surrounding forests caused by the Pine beetle attacks. This necessary procedure will help reduce the impact that a wildfire may cause on the mountain hamlet. Due to the pine beetle invasion Jasper will look significantly different over the next couple of years with trees being removed and open spaces appearing.
