Covid19 Wow!
No Matter where you are or who you are Covid19 is affecting you in some way. Listening to the news here in Calgary on a daily basis, life appears surreal, on one hand they are preaching the end of the world but intermixed with the normal mix of weather and traffic and of course the ads. What strange times we have found ourselves in.
Lorraine and I are hunkered down at home, with me working from home and Lorraine still having to go into work at the hospital, as she is deemed essential staff. To say we are a little worried about Lorraine contracting this virus is very real for us. With her job seeing her work in the emergency dept and interacting with all of the nurses and doctors and sometimes patients is a cause for concern. So, Lorraine and I have been coming up with a contingency plan on how we would deal with a positive diagnosis.
The best we have been able to come up with would be to use the RV as a safe haven for which ever one of us does not get the virus, but realistically regardless of who gets infected it would be me in the RV. I suppose if we both get it, there will be no point in isolating myself and the dog to the RV, but I guess we will cross that bridge when we get there.
Well it sure is feeling like summer is cancelled. Parks Canada is closing all parks as of Midnight tonight and only allowing pass through traffic. No stopping even on the side of the road or at trail heads. All parking lots and campgrounds closed. No indication of how long the closures will go on for, but I feel it will be for some time. Certainly, it’s disappointing, we and I am sure everyone else had great plans for this year’s camping season. I know we had 6 trips planned for the season with one of them being a trip to Vancouver Island for my brothers wedding. Now it is still all very much in the future but this feels like the closures and isolation orders will continue for months versus weeks.
The weather is still a bit to wintery yet to wake up the RV so I am hoping Lorraine’s prediction that the hospital is two weeks out before it will be under heavy attack is true. Hopefully two weeks from now I will have better and warmer weather, to help get all of the snow and ice off of the roof that is on top of my cover. Not to mention it would be much nicer to wake it up with warmer weather than -12c and snow.
With spring being delayed here in Calgary or at least its teasingly taking its time; and now an isolation order I must admit my spring fever has really taken off. I may not be able to go any where but I would like to be able to work on my rig to pass the camping time away. Sigh.. Dreaming of spring has now turned into just dreaming of hitting the road. Sigh..
Regardless of our desires it is so important that we all take this very seriously, stay at home, protect ourselves, and wait for the other side, because there will be another side. Till then Lorraine and I wish you all health and security, and happy dreams
Stay safe and Healthy
