Burr..It’s Cold out there eh? With temps hovering around -27c today Can you say hibernate? Apparently, it is going to get even colder over the next couple of days, with temps dropping down into the -30c’s Crazy! Even our dogs do not want to go outside! I don’t know about you, but this cold weather certainly makes me think of spring and summer adventures. I guess the good news is that its only 14 ½ weeks till camping season starts. May long weekend is not that far off now, but boy it’s going to be cold wait till then.
As we hibernate, I continue to plan out our summer and RV upgrades that I will be doing in the spring. As soon as the weather gets warmer and I can take the cover off I will be looking at doing the following upgrades.
- New door window – See through window with a shade.
- Install a rear stabilizer bar – This will be an upgrade from the factory stabilizer.
- Fix or replace the grey tank sensors.
- Add Fridge Fan to increase air flow and coldness.
- Add Fridge vent fans to increase cooling.
Till then I listen to my pod casts and dream of the new season. Do you listen to RV podcasts? Some of my favorite pod casts are:
- The RV show USA.
- RV Miles.
- The RV Atlas.
- Living the RV Dream.
- The RV Podcast.
Now all of these are US Podcasts about US camping, but they all have great content that can be applied to Canadian camping. Not to mention that they are entertaining. Check ‘em out I am sure you will enjoy them as much as I do.
Talking about May Long weekend this year will be crazy trying to book I predict. With all of the newbies that bought RV’s last year and the ones that will buy this year the amount of people trying to go camping will just explode! It was really tough last year to get spots especially for the May long weekend and the first four weeks of open season. So, planning your summer has never taken on such urgency as it has in the past. For tips on planning see my previous post https://thecanadianglampur.ca/are-you-planning-your-summer-yet/ .
If your looking to get into an RV this year a good place to start planning your journey is over at GoRviing Canada. Here you will find all sorts of resources that will help you navigate the RV purchasing journey. Of course, there is a variety of sites to look at from dealer sites to Auto Trader, but if you’re a newbie I would highly recommend that you go through a dealer as buying used RV’s brings it’s own set of issues, and can lead to a very disheartening experience if you do not know what you are doing or looking at. Regardless of where you buy if you can I highly recommend getting a RV inspector to come out and give your perspective RV a Good look over. You get a House inspection when buying a house, you should get and RV inspection when buying and RV. Buying an RV will probably be the second most expensive purchase you will make after your house. I know it was with us! Check out some of my previous posts about our process of purchasing our used RV.
